Everyone has a time in their life when everything that they are used to gets turned upside down and never can go back to how things once were. In Julya Nichols's series 092608, she shows this time in her life which was her fathers death. Being a young girl who had to watch her father fight a life or death battle with cancer can be scarring to the girl's personality. But even with her being scarred from watching someone she looked up to go through the horrific stages of cancer to holding his hand while he took his last breath, Julya always found a hard time trying to put her experience into words. Instead, she has taken her passion for art and used it to her advantage to explain her experience on how her life is today with out her father and still having the raw memories of the traumatic moment from her childhood. With using motion blur, color theory, as her way to reflect her emotions onto the subject in the photograph, she captures the viewer in an overwhelming wave of emotion that they can feel disconnected from but also familiar with by her personal yet universal imagery being shown.
